As part of our expanding network of senior freelance professionals, we are looking for an experienced Security Consultant who combines strategic vision with practical execution skills. In this role, you won’t just provide subject-matter advice — you’ll also lead projects, manage client relationships, and mentor junior consultants, all while working with the autonomy of an entrepreneur and the backing of a strong legal and operational framework.

You’ll play a crucial role in helping clients embed cybersecurity and governance into their day-to-day operations — whether via short-term advisory engagements or longer-term outsourcing mandates.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Senior Freelance Security Professional, you will:

• Lead the design and implementation of security frameworks and controls (e.g., ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA)

• Serve as project manager and/or account manager for key security assignments

• Advise boards, CISOs, and legal/compliance teams on cyber risk, security architecture, and incident preparedness

• Support clients with readiness assessments, audits, and regulatory compliance reviews

• Draft and operationalise security documentation, policies, procedures, and playbooks

• Strengthen internal capabilities in incident response, business continuity, and third-party/vendor risk

• Provide coaching and oversight to junior and medior security consultants within our freelance community

• Collaborate on BPO solutions for clients looking to outsource part of their security/compliance functions (e.g., CISO-as-a-Service, Policy Management-as-a-Service)

• Stay on top of emerging threats, technologies, and legislative frameworks — and translate them into practical, risk-informed action plans

Your Profile

• A senior-level freelance consultant or self-employed professional with 7+ years of relevant experience

• Expertise in information security, risk management, and governance across various sectors

• In-depth knowledge of ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA, or comparable frameworks

• Strong understanding of the relationship between legal obligations, operational controls, and IT architecture

• Experience leading cross-functional projects and managing client expectations, scope, and delivery

• People Manager and ability to coach and manage multiple teams/projects

• Fluent in Dutch or French, and English

• Based in the EU or USA, with flexibility to work across time zones when needed

• Brings a solution-focused, proactive mindset with a high sense of ownership and accountability
